Mauritania’s $220 Million Nouakchott Solar Project Includes Large-Scale Battery Storage
On 26 October 2026, the IFC disclosed proposed financing for the first phase of a hybrid renewable-energy project in Toujounine, Nouakchott-Nord, developed by Istithmar Green Energy. The overall project is valued at approximately $220 million, while the IFC is considering a loan of up to $54 million, subject to approval. The first phase includes a 160 MWp solar plant and a 180 MW / 370 MWh battery energy storage system, alongside grid connection infrastructure. Energy companies, engineering contractors and infrastructure operators can explore grid modelling, battery-performance monitoring and renewable-energy forecasting; HPC can support complex energy simulations and infrastructure analytics.
